24-7 Prayer involvement: In April 2003 I went to Spring Harvest and really wanted to hear from God what my immediate future should hold. At the time I was part of a music ministry called Cephas. We were a punk band who tried to reach out to marginalized kids. The ministry got to a point where we questioned where we were heading. All of us needed an element of provision to continue and I for one had no housing option for the coming year. At Spring Harvest I spoke to PETE GREIG about ministry opportunities. We started talking about Boiler Rooms and the desire to see creative types living in these communities in the way the monastic communities of old were. I was very interested by this and went away to pray about it all.

I’d had some limited involvement with the Reading Boiler Room through our band Cephas playing gigs in Reading and also through my attendance of Reading University prior to the Boiler Room opening. I was well aware of the work they were doing with the Forbury kids and was really up for plugging in with this. The dots were joined and as Cephas came to an end I moved into the Reading Boiler Room to take part in the Wild Goose Scheme. However when I went I felt that I was not called to this thing for a year out scheme having spent a few years of ‘year outs’. As the year has progressed God has been calling me on to help in the wider context and I feel called to help implement Boiler Rooms. My gifting at this time lies much in pastoral support, networking and listening. I look forward to developing other elements of myself throughout my new work alongside Resa Gutierrez and Andy Freeman, working together on supporting and leading Boiler Rooms.
